K.Keed – Burbin (feat. Indigo Stella) | Stream/Download

You probably heard of the name before, maybe a friend mentioned and you paid no mind or somewhere deep down your timeline you came across and continued to scroll, well, I’m here to let you know you made a mistake. You played yourself. K.Keed is what South African hip-hop desperately needs right now, a breath of fresh air. The CPT representer keeps showing growth and flexibility in every song. Her recent project ALTER EGO EP in my opinion is the one that should and actually will solidify her spot in the game forever, that’s if it wasn’t already.

Alter Ego EP features notable names like Blxckie, Dee Koala & Indigo Stella to name a few. The production quality is maintained at all time high it’s hard not to notice. The song Burbin is taken from the EP and for one reason I can’t stop my self from pressing the repeat button. I totally relate, I need my money it’s urgent urgent urgent. Let’s run them numbers up by streaming the song below.

Boxis – The End LP | Stream/Download

Following his official debut project The Arrival mixtape Boxis continued to grind and show growth with this LP titled The End, which, ironically, was the beginning of great many ventures for the Hammarsdale representing emcee.

The End LP has 16 songs with only four features from vocalists, Boxis made sure to leave enough canvas for himself to successfully paint every picture with less distractions. In every song he managed not to bombard the consumer with information, yet stuck to the point effectively and was able to carry-out the message quick. Beats by Sabatha,Mapiwe, Brave, Msp, Master Oscar ,Dakool & Emazweni cemented and are a perfect solid foundation of the whole project I honestly still enjoy this one. Listen to the LP below and let us know what you think of it.

Supah Mpondo & Tushensu – Rainbow Toothpaste EP | STREAM / DOWNLOAD

‘…Claiming you Ill knowing you whack?..’

Latest offering by the Supah & forever lyrical and talented individual Supah Mpondo alongside Tushensu this one titled Rainbow Toothpaste EP. The title refers to multiple colours (topics) made to fit in a small package for consumers.

TRACKLIST:

1. Ngeke Uyinuke

A song about a person who will practically beg you when they need your help and then you have to chase them when you want a repayment. Of course they return as soon as they need you again.

2. Rain Check

It’s about relationships that are going bad and have gone bad.

3. You (Interlude)

The last sentence on the previous song is, ‘tell her I said, ‘voetsek’ mombona.’’ I had to take a breather before jumping into the next topic. The sounds of rain make it a fitting extension for Rain Check.

4. I Am Here

A song telling my girlfriend that I am here for her.

5. Quantum Travel

A song about travelling in an overloaded taxi. I open with how the driver wins us over; I follow with how the experience is like; I go into the thoughts that run through my mind; and close with my request to get out.

6. Beauty Lies

For this one, I recorded a video of myself staring at the camera and wrote the lyrics in response to the footage; analysing the appearance and thoughts.

The Given Mixtape | STREAM/DOWNLOAD

“…If expressions is freedom so why be brutal to the talkative? / I asked a blind man to speak against the lack of vision but maybe it’s my mental blindness that had me leveled with him..” – FireArmz . A Night At The Shelter (feat. Abdus & Kamakaze)

The year is 2006 heading towards 2007, for most, this was indeed the golden era for hip-hop in Durban city. Almost all weekends called for emcees to gather in every tarven and corners of KZN bustin’ sixteens for the sake of keeping the hip-hop torch lit. The good ol’ Bat Centre days. I remember during this period all I cared about was hearing someone rap. I gave zero interest on how one swag looked, just raps I’d listen to. In 2007, though, a very important piece of the puzzle was put into place when The Given Mixtape was released. The compilation literally changed how one viewed Durban rap as a whole. The next level of lyricism was established and time honourned here effortlessly by everyone featured while instrumentals complimented, clapped and gave base (pun very much intended) to every bar delivered to the listener. This project has truly stood the test of time – hands down.

Sixteen years later, this is still on heavy rotations at least where I’m from. It is hard to ignore the impact it made as well as the influence it had to most. It is safe to call this one a classic.

The Given Mixtape runs for about 60 to 80 minutes with 17 tracks & features Manelis, SkyeWanda, Abdus, Ngqondo, Verbalist, Alligator MC, Kamakaze, FireArmz, Amphibious, Ayanda Makukule, Trey, Ayanda Zulu, Mic G, Bassik and Magnified Tones.

Incase you lost your copy or you never got the opportunity to have one look no further. You can still get the mixtape for free via SoundCloud. Get it for free below.
