He would later on begin writing his own lyrics to beats and start performing at talent shows across his hometown. He was part of the hip hop movement Words Unlimited which was responsible for hosting most of the hip hop sessions at the time.
Dee.am relocated to Johannesburg in 2008 in pursuit of his dream and also to further his studies. He enrolled for a Journalism course at the University of Johannesburg and obtained his degree afterwards.
He has showcased his writing and journalistic skills for newspapers such as City Press, Provoker news, and currently Hola magazine. Writing is one of his passions and as a result he does not limit himself to composing music only.
His rapping style is influenced by English and his mother tongue IsiZulu hence the slogan

2011 in his matric year him and his crew ‘May-trix’ recorded their 1st studio track tittle: “ skinny jeans Devil” which came a real high school anthem, but it was over with high school and was time to face the whole world.
