Innocent Qiniso Vilakazi Known as Tru Vilakazi was born in Mpumalanga in a township called eThandukukhaya near Piet Retief. He was raised by his grandparents and his stage name TRU comes form his second name Qiniso. He started hip hop in 2005 later on he started dancing hip hop with a crew, which was called Hypnosis. This is where he gained his street credibility. Vilakazi has a great passion for music; therefore he went to Piet Retief to study Music in Ndlela High School for 3 years that were he developed his talent of music and other talents like cartoonist, entertainer, event organizer, photographer, dance, promoter and etc. he is multitalented.
In 2007 he became one of the Mpumalanga’s 8 Top hip hoppers including Blank page, Burning Mic, Ace and other 4 artists he was the youngest of them all and representing Gert Sibande District in the provincial level which was the semi-final of the Competition which was hosted by Department of Art and Culture. Vilakazi is a hungry rapper that strives to be a successful musician, he is creative with his lyrical delivery, message delivery, vibe and he raps both in English and vernacular (Indigenous Languages) but most of the time he raps in vernacular. Vilakazi writes about his personal experiences and peoples experiences, he strongly believe that his voice speak for those who are unable or incapable to speak for themselves through hip-hop music.
In 2003 he met Pikachoo in primary but they were not close friends then in 2008 he met juk and then in 2009 juk , Pikachoo and Tru they all met again in Ndlela High school in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga. Where became classmates since 2009 until they final matric in 2011. Automatic they became best friends due to common musical interests in hip hop and the common style of flowing…Even after matric they still stick together as best friends. They all went to KZN, Durban to further their careers. In 2012 they decide to come up with a name that defines them well as musicians which was Treble Clef SA. The Trio has been friends since childhood and has no plans to stop making music together. Vilakazi went to UKZN.
Vilakazi wanted to be an Animator or cartoonist since childhood but he did afford the degree because music is in his veins he also wants to become a producer so that he can produce his songs and other artist’s songs. His vision is to become a prosperous artist and make a living out of his talent. He is inspired by the most successful and well-known artists like W.A. Mozart, Khuli Chana, Pretty Wende, Ayanda Makukule, Dream Team, AKA, Sarkodie , Pro, HHP, Teargas and others. Vilakazi comes from a Christian family, he firmly believes in God and he also believes that God helps those who help themselves.
He once became one of the Keen Artist and in the past 2 years he was feature in commercial event like Magic Tour as an up and coming artist, BRICS summit(2013) performing for sands man awards ,49M campaign by ESKOM(2013),HIP HOP SPRITE(2012),Durban Spring Break, He got a sponsor from Red Bull last year 2013 under Mr. Grant James (Student Brand Manager for RED BULL ZA) and him and his crew Treble Clef SA got nominated for the OMAZ 2013 as the RAP CREW of THE YEAR. He is working on their “Treble Clef SA” first official Album and currently he is a promoter for Durban Spring Break online and in social networks. He is unique with his afro style and He understands that in order to gain acknowledgement, a great deal of work will be needed.
